Game shooting season is nearly upon us in the UK, with the days getting shorter and the weather cooler. Preparation is key to a successful season. Here at Irelands, we have put together 5 things to remember before the 2023 shooting season begins:

1.Avoid last minute panic and the risk of missing a shoot day, put the dates of the shoots you will be attending into your diary or calendar and let the countdown begin! This will mean you know exactly when your kit needs to be ready.

2. Make sure your clothing is up to the job! Grab all of your shooting clothes and have a try on, that last thing you need is socks with holes in or a coat that is too small. Need to purchase something new? Don’t forget, we are official UK stockiest of Swazi Outdoor clothing and Jack Pyke country clothing here at Irelands and can provide you with the highest quality items for shooting season, such as coats, fleeces and waterproof trousers. Order online or in store.

3. Check that the rest of your kit is still in good nick! Don’t forget about your ear defenders, glasses, bags and boots and make sure they’re ready for the season ahead too. Now is a great time to check these things before it is too late to purchase.

Need a new flask? We have a range of Jack Pyke flasks in stock at our country shop.

4.Do you have a dog who will be joining you? Make sure they are shoot-ready, with some practice training to refresh their skills and their own kit packed, with a water bowl and towel.

5.Try and squeeze some practice in to refresh and improve your own skills. You could rehearse judging range and footwork, as well as practicing the correct stance and posture, all vital for a successful season!
